Caroline Correctional Unit Releases

Caroline Correctional Unit is a Virginia Department of Corrections facility. It is not a county or regional jail, and Pamunkey Regional Jail's “Who's In Jail” list is not its custody search. VADOC lists the unit at a Hanover postal address. The state operator, not the facility name, determines the correct release record and locator.

Leaving the unit does not always mean leaving VADOC custody. An institutional transfer moves the person to another state facility while custody continues. A parole or other supervised release can move the person into the community under conditions. A discharge ends the state obligation recorded in the release documents. Another detainer may direct the person to a different agency instead of the community.

Confirm Caroline Unit Release Status

The official VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator covers people in state institutions, probationers and parolees supervised by district offices, some people in institutional hospitals, and certain state-responsible people held in local or regional jails. VADOC says it is updated daily and warns that information can be inaccurate or out of date.

1. Use the seven-digit DOC ID when known because it is the strongest public search key.
2. For a name search, enter the first three letters of the first name and the full last name.
3. Apply optional location, race, gender, or age-range filters only to resolve identity.
4. Read the displayed location, status, and date labels exactly as the interface presents them.
5. Request executed documents when a signed release date or historical discharge must be proved.

Caroline Release Search Fields

The public VADOC form offers two main routes. A DOC ID points to one state record. Name searching is broader and requires cautious identity matching. Optional filters help narrow common names, but a match should still be compared with known dates, middle name, prior location, and case details before any status is attributed.

Caroline Unit Records and Contact

VADOC lists Caroline Correctional Unit at 31285 Camp Road, Hanover, Virginia. The unit's public phone is 804-994-2161. Research did not establish public release-processing hours, a separate former-person roster, or a unit-specific online release archive. Phone contact can route a question, while an executed record provides firmer proof.

For historical or inactive state material, use the VADOC public-records page. It links Form 17 for inactive inmate or CCAP probationer/parolee records. VADOC lists FOIA@vadoc.virginia.gov and 804-963-2953 for guidance. Ask for existing executed release documents, notification-of-release correspondence, verified discharge date or status, and releasable portions of the state file.

The facility or district maintaining the file may be the proper custodian. A concise request should include legal name, DOC ID, date range, the exact document sought, and a request for a cost estimate. Do not ask staff to compute or create a new report when an existing order or record will answer the question.

Caroline State Release Documents

VADOC's release process describes a notification-of-release letter and, as applicable, an Order of Release, Conditions of Probation, or Conditions of Parole. Staff and the released person sign and date the controlling documents. That executed paperwork is stronger evidence than a future date on a current locator result.

Operating Procedure 050.3 requires records staff to review identity, sentence computation, warrants, detainers, court orders, disciplinary matters that affect time, and other blockers. A future date can move when those inputs change. It should be described as anticipated or projected in practical terms unless the live result uses a more exact label. Never convert a date into a guarantee.

Caroline Release Date Limits

Virginia uses several sentence-credit regimes, and the applicable rule depends on offense and sentence facts. Good Conduct Allowance applies principally to older felony offenses and certain older misdemeanors. Earned Sentence Credit applies to felony offenses committed on or after January 1, 1995, with different earning rates and exclusions. These categories cannot be reduced to one percentage.

Inputs can include pretrial jail credit, active term, concurrent or consecutive structure, earning-class changes, disciplinary loss, court amendments, detainers, and uncalculated sentences. VADOC or the proper local authority performs the official computation. A passed future date should trigger a fresh locator check and a request for the executed Order of Release, not an assumption that departure occurred.

Caroline Release Supervision

VADOC Probation and Parole District 41 serves the Town of Ashland and both Caroline and Hanover counties. It is located at 103 Green Chimneys Court, Suite A, Ashland, VA 23005, with current directory number 804-368-3846. A locator result tied to District 41 supports state community supervision, not continued residence at Caroline Correctional Unit.

Probation and parole are different. Parole is conditional release granted under the Board framework for an eligible sentence. Probation is ordered by a court and may follow incarceration or arise without a prison release. A person can leave the unit but remain under VADOC supervision. Hanover's Community Corrections and Pretrial Services is a separate local program, not VADOC felony supervision. Staff may confirm the right reporting office while withholding protected personal, treatment, safety, or victim information.

The VADOC facilities and offices directory controls the current unit and district contact data. The unit's name does not establish which district will supervise every released person; use the actual locator result and release order.

Caroline Notification Release Channels

State-prison notifications use VADOC's victim-service workflow, now described through NAAVI. VADOC lists event types such as transfer, advanced release, actual release, death, escape and return, work release, name change, and parole matters. Eligibility for direct notice can differ from access to the public locator.

NAAVI is not connected to local Jail VINE. It does not cover ordinary local jail inmates or people who are merely probationers or parolees. If someone was state-responsible but held at PRJ before transfer, local Jail VINE and the state workflow can describe different custody stages. Register in the system that currently holds the person.

An advanced release notice is anticipated and subject to change. An actual release notice reflects the state event, although supervision or another authority's custody can still follow. Keep the registration confirmation and verify urgent changes with VADOC or the unit.

Why Caroline Is in Hanover

Caroline Correctional Unit is a local naming trap with real search effects. VADOC's directory places its address in Hanover, even though “Caroline” appears in the official facility name. A search limited to correctional facilities named for Hanover could therefore omit an operating state unit physically located within the county.

Geography does not change the operator. The unit remains VADOC state custody and uses the statewide offender and discharge path. Conversely, District 41 serves both Hanover and Caroline from Ashland. Facility, sentencing locality, and supervision district can have different names. The state record and directory are better guides than a name-based assumption.

Pamunkey Regional Jail is a sibling Hanover facility but serves a different custody class. Its current regional-jail list, local VINE events, and authority movement records do not replace the VADOC locator or release packet for Caroline Correctional Unit.

Caroline Release Evidence Order

For exact physical release, an executed VADOC order or movement record is strongest. A current district-office result or actual state notification can support what followed. A court sentencing order supplies legal authority and term details but may not show the final physical departure after all checks.

If official sources conflict, record each observation date, contact the custodians, and avoid a final claim until the difference is resolved. Transfer, parole, discharge, and detainer pickup should never be treated as interchangeable.
