No Hanover 24 Hour Feed
The official Pamunkey Regional Jail Who’s In Jail list shows current custody. It is not labeled “Released,” “Recent Releases,” or “24 Hours.” Research completed on August 8, 2026 found no separate PRJ URL for a same-day release archive. It also found no official field set, update schedule, web-retention term, or photo rule for such a feed. The Hanover Sheriff does not run the adult jail roster because PRJ is a regional authority that serves Hanover, Caroline, Ashland, and other participating localities.
This gap changes the first step. Call PRJ at 804-365-6400 and ask for Booking/Release at extension 3043 when the question is time-sensitive. Records at extension 3033 is the route for an existing jail record. Give the full name, a booking number when known, and the narrow date range. Staff may be able to distinguish a release from an agency transfer, though privacy and record rules can limit what is given by phone.
A Hanover connection also needs proof. PRJ’s physical location does not establish that Hanover was the arresting or sentencing locality. Check the charging agency, court, and booking record before placing a person in a Hanover County same-day result.
Check Hanover Same-Day Releases
A same-day check should preserve both source and time. PRJ’s list can establish that a record was present at one point, while Jail VINE, court entries, and the jail movement record can explain a later change. Use identity details with care. A shared name is not enough, so compare the booking or inmate number, age or birth data when lawfully shown, charging locality, and case number before tying an event to one person.
- Check PRJ’s current list and note the exact time searched. Save the person’s detail or booking identifier if it is shown.
- Search the same person through Virginia Jail VINE and read the provider’s exact event term, such as released or transferred.
- Review Hanover General District and Circuit Court records for a bond order, dismissal, sentence, revocation, or other action.
- Call PRJ Booking/Release and ask whether the booking ended through community release or movement to another authority.
- Request the existing commitment/release or inmate-movement record when written proof is needed.
The Hanover County released inmate search gives the broader named-person path when the person may have moved into state, federal, or immigration custody. It is useful when one day’s local events do not answer the question.
Hanover 24 Hour Record Fields
Because no official same-day feed exists, these are fields to request from an existing PRJ release or movement record. They are not claims about fields displayed on a public 24-hour webpage. Ask the custodian for the record as kept and for a data key if a code is unclear. A specific request is more useful than asking staff to build a new list, which Virginia FOIA does not require an authority to create.
| Requested field | What it can establish |
|---|---|
| Legal name and booking identifier | Links the event to the correct PRJ jail stay. |
| Admission date and time | Marks when that booking began. |
| Release or movement date and time | Records when PRJ processed the departure. |
| Releasing authority | Identifies the office or order behind the action. |
| Disposition or movement type | Separates bond, time served, court order, and transfer. |
| Destination agency category | Shows whether another authority accepted custody. |
Release terms have narrow meanings. Bond release means physical release under terms while a case may remain open. Time served ties to the court’s sentence. Transfer means the person left PRJ but remained in some form of custody. A detainer is another agency’s request to hold or receive the person, so a detainer pickup is not proof of return home.
Note: Ask for the exact recorded disposition instead of describing every operational departure as a Hanover County community release.
Why Hanover Release Cards Vanish
PRJ’s new official interface is expressly a Who’s In Jail service. It has pages of current names, links to individual details, and an image area. It does not show a former-person archive. That design creates a Hanover-specific rule: disappearance starts a check but never finishes it. The card could end after bond, sentence completion, a court order, transfer to VADOC, movement to another jail, or pickup by a federal or immigration authority.
The official interface itself helps document that limit. The PRJ current-custody screen is shown below as a successful manifest capture.
The screen supports a present-custody check, not a claim about who left during a fixed Hanover County release window. No public PRJ retention span was found, and a vanished web card does not mean the underlying jail record was destroyed.
Request Hanover Same-Day Release Records
Pamunkey Regional Jail Authority created the custody record, so a request for PRJ booking or movement material should go to the authority rather than being assumed to sit with the Hanover Sheriff. Use the PRJ FOIA entry, or write to PRJ at 7240 Courtland Farm Road, P.O. Box 510, Hanover, VA 23069. The main phone is 804-365-6400, and the published email is contactus@pamunkeyjail.gov.
Identify the person, booking number if known, and the approximate booking and release span. Ask for the existing commitment/release or movement record, the release or transfer date and time, disposition, releasing authority, and destination-agency category. Request electronic copies and segregable nonexempt portions if part of a record is withheld. Under Virginia FOIA’s general process, a public body responds within five working days by producing records, denying with a cited basis, seeking clarification, saying the record cannot be found, or invoking a lawful extension. Actual reasonable costs may apply, and a deposit may be required when projected charges exceed $200.
A jail record is the best evidence of physical processing. A court order shows legal authority but may precede checkout. Pair them when exact timing matters.
Hanover Release App Limits
PRJ does have a branded OCV mobile app. The jail’s official materials link to its store bridge, and the app offers another route to jail information. Research did not verify a recent-release module or a mobile-only 24-hour archive. Treat an inmate feature there as current custody unless the app itself clearly labels a distinct release record and states its window.
The official PRJ app-store bridge is captured below.
The capture confirms the official app route. It does not establish that the app publishes names released from Hanover County custody during the prior day.
Note: Administrative contact hours do not define release hours, and PRJ has not published a fixed daily release schedule.
Hanover Released Versus Transferred
The next source depends on the type of departure. A former PRJ detainee is best checked through the jail movement record, Jail VINE, and the Hanover court case. Someone turned over after a state-responsible sentence should be checked in the Virginia Department of Corrections Inmate and Supervisee Locator. A VADOC institution result means state custody continues. A probation or parole district result points to community supervision after prison, while a missing result still does not prove full discharge.
| Observed status | Best next check |
|---|---|
| Still on PRJ list | Current PRJ display; ask the jail about any pending movement. |
| Absent after local court action | Jail VINE, both Hanover courts, and PRJ Booking/Release. |
| Possible VADOC turnover | VADOC Locator by seven-digit DOC ID or name. |
| Possible federal transfer | BOP locator and the federal court docket. |
| Possible immigration pickup | ICE detainee locator and official case contacts. |
VINE is a near-real-time event tool, not a certified release document. Court entries may show bond or a final result, but an extra charge or detainer can keep a person held. When sources conflict, record when each was checked and ask the record custodians to reconcile the events.
Expand Hanover Release Dates
A question that crosses midnight may be too broad for a same-day phone check yet too narrow for a full case history. Specify a start and end date in the records request, including the year and local time if known. Ask for an existing release log for that interval rather than demanding a custom report. The Hanover Jail Releases: 72 Hours workflow is designed for a three-day span, weekends, and multi-day checks.
Keep each event tied to its source. “PRJ recorded release” is different from “the court granted bond,” and both differ from “VINE sent an event notice.” For a same-day Hanover County release, the executed jail movement entry carries the clearest physical date and time. The record should also show whether the destination was the community or another agency.
